2026 Taizan Fukun Honmyō Zokusei Festival Announcement
We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional support and kindness shown toward Tensha Shrine and the preservation of the historic Tsuchimikado sites.
The Taizan Fukun Honmyō Zokusei Festival is regarded as one of the most venerable rites of Onmyodo. Since ancient times it was revered and performed among the Imperial family, members of the royal household, court nobles and shogunal families as a special faith and rite dedicated to the Big Dipper. According to the tradition carried by this shrine, no other sect or ritual system could perform it; only the Tsuchimikado family, also known as the Abe family, inherited this sacred secret rite.
Each person receives a natal star according to the year of birth. The Nine Stars are the star palaces through which Taiitsu moves, and the natal star is the one among them determined by the year of birth. The cycle of these star palaces completes one round in nine years and returns to its original seat.
At our shrine, we teach that, in accordance with this cycle, the human konpaku (the spiritual and bodily souls) also respond to the movements of Heaven. At Risshun, the first day of spring in the traditional calendar, when the year is renewed, we offer prayers to the kami of the stars in Heaven, beginning with Taiitsu, and solemnly perform the rite that the Tsuchimikado family calls kikon (歸魂). It is a rite that restores the konpaku to their original state.
We respectfully announce that the sacred secret rite handed down from Abe no Seimei, the Taizan Fukun Honmyō Zokusei Festival, will be conducted solemnly from 11:00 a.m. on February 4, 2026, the first day of spring in the traditional calendar.
Those wishing to attend or request a prayer are invited to apply through the shrine office or the website reception page.
