Shiki no Kai

In the shrine grounds through the four seasons, we tend our hearts and daily lives.

Shiki no Kai (the Four Seasons Gathering) brings people together to cleanse the grounds of Tensha Shrine and to learn the teachings of Onmyodo.
Our grounds are more than our staff alone can fully tend.
We would be most grateful for your help.
We sincerely look forward to your participation.

The cleaning gatherings are held in the grounds of Tensha Shrine in Natasho, Oi Town, Fukui Prefecture, Japan. Both the cleaning gatherings and the study sessions are held in Japanese.

Cleaning Gathering

The cleaning gathering is a time to tidy the shrine grounds together. As we pull weeds and sweep fallen leaves, our spirits grow lighter and clearer. It is a pleasant time to feel the passing of the seasons amid the nature of Natasho. No special preparation or knowledge is needed, and anyone is welcome to join.

Study Session

The study session is a gathering to learn the ideas of yin and yang and the Five Phases, using the nature around us as a guide. Based on the classic Gogyo Taigi (The Great Meaning of the Five Phases), we explain from the basics the passage from day to night, the cycle of the seasons, and the connections among wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Afterwards, the plants and the sky on your way home may look a little different. There is no need to memorize difficult terms, so newcomers are also welcome to join.
